ccFoam is an abbreviation for closed-cell foam, a spray applied polyurethane insulating foam. Closed-cell spray foam has many advantages over other building insulations including: highest R-value per inch, adds structural strength, acts as a seamless air barrier, restricts moisture transmission, reduces sound transmission and does not shrink or settle.
Honeywell is a leading supplier of blowing agents for closed-cell spray foam. Honeywell Enovate® HFC 245fa blowing agent is a non-flammable, zero ozone-depleting liquid that allows insulating foam to expand. It is the main factor in determining R-value and helps provide many of the foam’s key performance characteristics.
Honeywell Enovate has been used for years to help appliances achieve ENERGY STAR® ratings and is rapidly being adopted to insulate homes, especially walls, basements and attics. Because of the unique physical performance characteristics of polyurethane spray foam systems, homes using this system are protected from severe weather.
This unique technology also serves as a cost-effective and energy-efficient roof and wall insulation system for commercial buildings. Spray foam with Honeywell’s unique insulating technology can be applied over existing roof substrates. Installation takes place with minimal business interruption or inconvenience.
The technology is also now being used for novel applications such as solar water heaters in China and hurricane-resistant roofing for the Louisiana Superdome.
Honeywell continues to innovate through its ongoing materials development programs. These include a low global warming potential (GWP) solution for one-component foam, used to seal around windows and doors in Europe.
In recognition of Enovate’s beneficial environmental properties, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded Honeywell its Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award in 2002.
